Sustainable Braintree’s Biggest Carbon Loser Event at Farmers Market – Saturday July 16 and Saturday August 13. Braintree residents will learn about the effects of climate change and what they can do to be part of the solution. By reducing the quantity of greenhouse gases we emit when we heat our homes, drive our cars and run our appliances, we can counter the effects of global warming, save money on our utility bills and, in the case of this event, win prizes in a quest to be crowned the Biggest Carbon Loser. The Biggest Carbon Loser event will be split up into two sessions each occurring during the hours of the Farmers Market in the adjacent Town Hall.Session 1 will include a discussion on what is happening to our climate, a demonstration on how to calculate and reduce your carbon footprint and instructions on how to win the event and be crowned the Biggest Carbon Loser. At Session 2 all participants will gather and review as a group their carbon footprints and the actions that each household has taken to reduce their footprint. The household with the most reductions (as a percentage of their original footprint) will be crowned the Biggest Carbon Loser!Special prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Of course, when we lower our carbon footprints we are all winners and all participants will receive a prize.Register for the event as an individual, or as a representative of your community organization, business, or faith community.
